Summary: Twenty-four-year-old truck stop waitress and single mother Catherine Wright has simple goals: to give her five-year-old daughter a happy life and to never again be the talk of the town in Balsam, Pennsylvania (population three thousand outside of tourist season).
And then one foggy night, on a lonely road back from another failed date, Catherine saves a man’s life. It isn’t until after the police have arrived that Catherine realizes exactly who it is she has rescued: Brett Madden, hockey icon and media darling.
Catherine has already had her fifteen minutes of fame and the last thing she wants is to have her past dragged back into the spotlight, only this time on a national stage. So she hides her identity. It works. For a time.
But when she finds the man she saved standing on her doorstep, desperate to thank her, all that changes. There’s an immediate connection, and it’s more electric than the bond of two people who endured a traumatic event. It’s something neither of them expected. Something that Catherine isn’t sure she can handle; something she is afraid to trust.
Because how long can an extraordinary man like Brett be interested in an ordinary woman like Catherine...before the spark fades?

Until It Fades was the third novel I read by K.A. Tucker and it has confirmed not only that K.A. Tucker is one of my favorite New Adult authors, but also that she is one of my new go-to authors. I knew nothing about Until It Fades before I dove in; however, I ended up loving the novel and it's characters. While I have only read a few of the numerous novels K.A. Tucker has published, Until It Fades has a different feel from the other novels she has written, she even confirms this in the Acknowledgments. Not only does Until It Fades have an emphasis on hockey, it is also a slower paced novel in comparison to her rather thrilling and intense novels. Until It Fades was a more relaxed novel, but it was still a great addition to K.A. Tucker's work.
I absolutely loved the family aspect of the story. The main character, Cath, has a five-year-old daughter, Brenna, who is a crucial part of the story. Cath's family as well as work-family/family-friends were a large part of the story and were a great addition to it. I loved seeing how much love and support Brenna received. She was a precious character and I am so happy that she was given an overwhelming amount of love and support. I also appreciated that she was a crucial part of the story. While I have read few novels that feature a child in it, those that I have read rarely feature the child as a main character. I loved that Brenna was treated as she should be, put before her mom and the other characters of the novel. She was always considered before anything was decided.
The characters overall were extremely well developed. Even characters that were scarcely in the story were highly developed and given a place in the story. K.A. Tucker spares no expense when it comes to properly developing her characters. I loved all of the characters that I was meant to love and hated all of the ones that I was supposed to. She created the perfect batch of characters that I would love to read countless companion novels about. She put so much care into her characters and it really shines though. The only character I felt slightly detached from was the male love interest, Brett, who I was a bit hesitant towards because he seems a little too perfect; however, his relationship with Cath was sweet and well deserving.
Until It Fades is the perfect New Adult Contemporary novel. It featured a unique family-dynamic, well developed characters that I could not help but fall for, and K.A. Tucker's phenomenal writing. I would love to see future companion novels following this group of characters, I cannot get enough of them. Until It Fades deserves to have a home on your bookshelf either on your well established K.A. Tucker shelf or your up-and-coming shelf dedicated to her. It is the perfect novel for any season and any reason. Until It Fades is available on June 27th so I highly recommend preordering a copy for yourself (and your shelf).
K.A. Tucker is the author of He Will Be My Ruin and the Ten Tiny Breaths and Burying Water series. She currently resides outside of Toronto with her husband, two beautiful girls, and a Chug.
