ARC Review: The Return (Titan #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

SummaryThe Fates are cackling their bony asses off…

It’s been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they’ve given him have been violent and bloody–which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He’s got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet.

Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy’s deal might be, but it’s a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her.

But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.

Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.

Book 1 in the new adult paranormal TITAN series, spin-off to the best selling COVENANT series.

Review:
The Return is the first novel in Jennifer L. Armentrout's New Adult series, Titan, the spin-off of the Covenant series. It follows Seth about a year after the events that occurred in the last novel of the Covenant series, Sentinel. Throughout the novel, we meet many new characters, but we also see some familiar faces.
The Return was such an enjoyable read. I flew through the book in a span of a few days and without a doubt I would have finished it in one sitting if I did not have school. This has to be my favorite Jennifer L. Armentrout book yet. The Return has the perfect ratio of laugh out loud moments, romance, action, and scenes with Seth shirtless. I could not get enough of The Return and I am dying to get my hands on the next book.
I managed to get an advanced copy of The Return during Jennifer L. Armentrout's signing at BookCon last May. But, I had yet to read the Covenant series up until this January so I only read The Return a couple weeks in advance. However, I am glad I waited to read The Return until recently because I attended ApollyCon, the release party for The Return, last weekend, and it was nice to have the book fresh in my mind for the event.
Although I loved The Return, I am not in love with the new cover. The original cover that my ARC features is mysterious and compelling. But, this new cover reminds me of a cover for adult romance novel and it makes me uncomfortable looking at it. However, I have seen the U.K. edition and they have taken the cover in a different direction and it is absolutely breathtaking.
When I read the Covenant series, I was not a big fan of Seth. He was an alright character but I did not see why one of my close friends was so in love with him. However, after reading The Return, I take all of that back. The Return made me fall in love with Seth, it shined a whole new light on him that I had never seen before. The readers get to learn a lot of Seth's back story and personal information he has yet to disclose (*cough* Seth's last name *cough*). Seth has given up so much for those he loves and I hope by the end of the series, he will get his well deserved ending like Alex and Aiden did in the Covenant series. One thing I really admire about Jennifer's characters is that she only gives them the ending they deserve. Many authors reward their characters with endings that are more deserving to characters that have worked harder to reach their end. As torturous as Jennifer can be, she always gives her character the endings they have worked so hard to receive.
I loved the alternating perspectives between Seth and Josie. They were both fun and witty characters that are a perfect match for one another. As usual, Jennifer serves up a fiery hot romance with a mouthwatering love interest. One of my favorite book blogs, Dark Faerie Tales, did a dating game with Seth and Josie for Valentine's Day and I was cracking up laughing the entire time. I highly recommend reading it if you have already read The Return (click here to check out Seth and Josie's dating game).
The Return was an experimental phase for me. I decided to try using little post-it-notes to mark scenes that I viewed important or funny so that if I ever wanted to reference them again, I could automatically jump back to them. However, I did not anticipate using so many. I went a little post-it-note happy and ended running out a short time after finishing The Return, so my experiment is over with...
The Return was phenomenal, but what else do I expect from Jennifer L. Armentrout? I would highly recommend checking out any of Jennifer L. Armentrout's books, they all have my stamp of approval. She writes in a wide variety of genres and I am positive you can find a book that sparks your interest.
